Malcolm McLaren

Last night Malcolm McLaren gave a talk on his new book "Musical Paintings" and his film "Shallow", which they showed chapters of, at the New York Public Library. The book is a visual essay of 21 musical paintings and images including stills from "Shallow". The editor of Fantom Magazine interviewed McLaren about the book, film, his current project "Paris" as well as pop culture. McLaren had a unique and insightful perspective of what he calls "karaoke" culture and the "talent show" being marketed and sold with corporate greed as definitive of today's popular culture and how it differs from popular culture of the past, which was primarily a result of attaining or reflecting sexual liberation.
